Kannrankesläktet omfattar ungefär 200 arter i familjen kannrankeväxter. Det finns även ett antal naturliga hybrider.

Växterna i släktet är halvbuskar och buskar som kan vara klätterväxter, markväxande eller epifyter. De är tvåbyggare och de är insektsätande. Bladen är omvandlade till behållare som vanligen är runda, ovala eller trattformade och som ofta har ett lock upptill som dock inte stänger behållaren. Vid kanten av behållaren finns körtlar som avger nektar. Insekter lockas dit och halkar ner i behållaren där det finns en vätska som löser upp dem vilket ger växten näring. Färgen på behållaren är grön, gul, orange, vit, lila eller röd och där finns ofta streck eller prickar. Blommorna sitter i samlingar. Blomfärgen är grön, brun eller röd. Frukten är en kapsel.

Utbredningsområdet är i västra Indiska oceanen, södra Kina, Assam och Sri Lanka i den indiska subkontinenten, Indokina, Malesien, Papuasien, nordöstra Australien, sydvästra Stilla havet och nordvästra Stilla havet. Några arter odlas som prydnadsväxter.
